I was planning to bring my current hardware buying spree to an end but for reasons (moving) I will need a whole new network stack. So of course I went straight to MikroTik for a few simple reasons. Designed and (partial) build in the EU! Full control over software, nothing locked down. (My access point can run BGP if I want it to.) Not opensource but it’s the next best thing. This all at a great (low) price. I got a hAP be lite as router and wifi 7 access point combo. I already got tests running with wifi hitting more then 900 Mbps. And I also got a switch, the CSS318-16G-2S+IN (rolls of the tongue right). It’s a managed switch with 16 gigabit-ports and 2 SFP+ 10Gb ports. Nothing fancy but because of the SFP+ ports for linking up future switches I see myself using this one for 10+ years. Its perfect for my cluster setups, many devices but al just 1Gb and nothing PoE. I just need a rack to put it all in and I am done, promise.
