I just got my solar inverter data pulled into a Grafana dashboard. I was fully expecting to have to create an account for a stupid app that always goes to the cloud. That is possible and their recommended way, but you can just hook your laptop to the ethernet port and expose the web GUI that is running on the inverter itself to your local network. On that web interface I could enable Modbus (apparently some kind of industrial machine-to-machine protocol). When Modbus is exposed, all I need is just a simple exporter and I have all my data in my metrics server. For now I just use it for a dashboard, but the data is fully in my ownership. I can set up any automation I want based around solar data now.
